Lesson 2 — Prompts To Transform Content
Prompts can also be used to transform, improve, and adapt existing content.
Reformatting
You can ask AI to change the structure or format of information, such as from text to table, bullets, or diagrams.
Example 1 – Text → Table:
- Prompt:
“Convert the following paragraph into a table with columns: ‘Device’, ‘Main Benefit’, ‘Approximate Cost’: [paste paragraph].”
Example 2 – Text → Diagram description:
- Prompt:
“Here is a description of a company’s sales process. Rewrite it as a step-by-step diagram description that I can use in a flowchart tool: [paste text].”
Editing and Proofreading
AI can improve grammar, spelling, clarity, tone, and structure.
Example 1 – Professional tone:
- Prompt:
“Edit the following email to sound professional and polite, while keeping it short: [paste email].”
Example 2 – Clarity & grammar:
- Prompt:
“Improve the clarity and fix any grammar mistakes in this paragraph without changing the meaning: [paste paragraph].”
Providing Visualizations (Text → Image)
AI image generators (e.g., Adobe Firefly, DALL·E, Gemini image tools) can create images from descriptive text prompts. The choice of words and level of detail are crucial.
Example 1 – Marketing image:
- Prompt:
“Generate a high-resolution image of a cozy living room at night, with warm lighting and a smart speaker on a wooden table, in a modern, realistic style.”
Example 2 – Educational diagram:
- Prompt:
“Create a simple, flat-style illustration of the water cycle showing evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, labeled clearly for middle-school students.”
Transforming Content (Image → Text)
Some AI tools can analyze images and generate text from them.
Example 1 – Image description:
- Prompt:
“Describe in detail what you see in this image, focusing on the setting, objects, and emotions.” (With an image attached.)
Example 2 – Extracting text (OCR-like behavior):
- Prompt:
“Read the text in this screenshot and rewrite it as clean, editable text.”
Translating Content
AI can translate text between languages, but human review is recommended for sensitive or formal content.
Example 1 – Casual translation:
- Prompt:
“Translate this short text from English to French in a friendly tone: [paste text].”
Example 2 – Formal translation with warning:
- Prompt:
“Translate this employment contract summary from English to Arabic using a formal, legal tone. Highlight any terms that may be ambiguous in Arabic.”
→ Note: A legal expert should still review the translation.
Personalizing and Adapting Content
You can adapt the same content for different audiences, ages, or expertise levels.
Example 1 – Simplifying for students:
- Prompt:
“Explain the following text for an 8th-grade student in simple language and short sentences: [paste technical text].”
Example 2 – Technical adaptation:
- Prompt:
“Rewrite this introduction for a technical audience of software engineers, including more precise terminology: [paste original introduction].”
Example 3 – Audience personalization:
- Prompt:
“Adapt this safety instruction for parents reading it to their children. Make it reassuring but clear about the risks: [paste text].”
