Lesson 1— Improving Prompts

Using clear structures or frameworks makes prompts more precise and improves AI output.

Persona vs Role

  • Persona = Personality or style.
Example: “technical, precise, formal,” “friendly coach,” “playful storyteller.”
  • Role = Function or responsibility.
Example: “installation technician,” “songwriter,” “marketing manager,” “tax advisor.”

You can combine both:

  • “You are a technical support engineer with a calm, patient persona, explaining things step-by-step to non-experts.”

3.1.1. The PTCF Framework

PTCF = Persona – Task – Context – Format

ComponentDescriptionExample
PersonaAssign a role and personality to the AI.“You are a creative preschool storyteller who uses simple, age-appropriate language.”
TaskState the specific action you want.“Write a short bedtime story that 4-year-olds can understand and that ends with a moral.”
ContextExplain the background and purpose.“The story will be read aloud during preschool nap time to help children relax.”
FormatSpecify the structure or formatting.“The story should have 5 short sentences, each on its own line. The last sentence must contain the moral in simple words.”

Full PTCF Example – Email:

  • Persona:
“You are a professional HR manager with a supportive, empathetic tone.”
  • Task:
“Draft an email to an employee informing them about a change in work schedule.”
  • Context:
“The schedule is changing because of a new client project. The change is not optional but we want to keep morale high.”
  • Format:
“Write 150–200 words, with a clear subject line, a short introduction, the explanation, and a polite closing.”

3.1.2. The C.A.R.E. Framework (for Image Prompts)

C.A.R.E. = Context – Action – Requirements – Examples

ComponentWhat to IncludeExample for Image Creation
C – ContextBackground info, audience, and usage.“For an AI art workshop for kids, we need a poster image to advertise the event.”
A – ActionWhat you want the AI to create.“Generate a high-resolution image of a futuristic city where nature and kids blend seamlessly.”
R – RequirementsStyle, format, tone, size, details.“Bright, colorful cartoon style, happy mood, 16:9 aspect ratio, enough empty space for text.”
E – ExamplesReference style, artist, or mood.“Inspired by Pixar-style animation, but set in a futuristic city with lots of trees and parks.”

Full C.A.R.E. Example – Social media post:

  • Context:
“We are promoting a weekend coding camp for teenagers on Instagram.”
  • Action:
“Create an image showing a group of diverse teenagers coding together on laptops in a modern classroom.”
  • Requirements:
“Vibrant, modern illustration; include code snippets on the screens; 1080×1080 resolution; leave space at the top for a title.”
  • Examples:
“In a style similar to modern educational tech illustrations, dynamic and energetic.”
